Requirements for dropped kerb/crossover
There is a select criteria of certain measurements that are required when applying for a dropped kerb.
The measurements are shown in the relevant images below and as readable text underneath each image for ease.
The specification for constructing both standard and parallel parking crossovers is to a standard set by the council where in addition to the required width, the entire depth of the footway from front to back is excavated, reinforced with concrete, the kerbs dropped and reinstated accordingly.
Standard crossover/dropped kerb dimensions and requirements
Dimensions for standard crossover/dropped kerb
- The minimum width of the driveway/parking area must be 2.4m
- If the driveway/parking area is over 5 square metres a soakaway or permeable surface must be installed
- A minimum footway length of 4.2m is required
- Minimum 2.4m to 5.5m maximum flat kerb area
- A Minimum of 0.3m from the property boundary either side
- 0.6m minimum ramped kerb either side
Standard crossover/dropped kerb dimensions for protrusions
Dimensions for standard crossover/dropped kerb boundary/bay window
- Minimum of 4.8m from any protrusions such as a bay window or steps to the boundary of the footway
Parallel parking crossover/dropped kerb dimensions and requirements
Dimensions for parallel parking crossover/dropped kerb
- The minimum width of the driveway/parking area must be 4.8m
- If the driveway/parking area is over 5 square metres a soakaway or permeable surface must be installed
- A minimum footway length of 4.2m is required
- Minimum 2.4m to 5.5m maximum flat kerb area
- A Minimum of 0.3m from the property boundary either side
- 0.6m minimum ramped kerb either side
Parallel parking
This is subject to a signed agreement:
- that drivers will park parallel to the property frontage
- not overhang the public highway
- when your property frontage does not have the minimum depth of 4.8m but meets the criteria below:
- 0.3m in from boundary on both sides as per standard crossover image example above
- Minimum parking area width 4.8m and 3.0m depth from and protrusions such as porches, bay windows or steps
- Minimum flat kerb length 2.4m and maximum 5.5m along with construction area as per standard crossover image example above
Parallel parking crossover/dropped kerb dimensions for protrusions
Dimensions for parallel parking crossover/dropped kerb boundary/bay window
Minimum of 3m from any protrusions such as a bay window or steps to the boundary of the footway.
Dimensions for dropped kerb/crossover over two properties
If applying for two properties or are adjoining a crossover servicing a neighbouring property, then the following requirements are:
- the maximum length of the joint crossover is 11m
- each property flat kerb length should be a minimum of 2.4m and up to a maximum of 5.5m
