Winter 2025
Welcome to your winter edition of the Bexley Magazine. As the magazine went to print I officially stood down as the Leader of the Council.
It has been a tremendous 17 years that have included some great achievements, some brilliant campaigns on behalf of our residents and business and some truly momentous events.
I have been honoured to have led this great Council for so many years. Of course, none of the achievements have been all down to me alone. I have had a brilliant team surrounding me and some exceptional staff that have worked with us as Members to turn our ambitions for Bexley into reality.
As I leave to concentrate on my role in the House of Lords, please be assured that as a resident and a firm believer in how great our borough is, I will continue to have the best interests of our Brilliant Bexley at heart.
Cllr Baroness O’Neill of Bexley OBE
Cllr Baroness O’Neill of Bexley OBE has been an outstanding Leader. Her dedication and commitment to our Borough has led Bexley through challenging times and delivered improved services and investment in our communities.
Just some of her many achievements over her last 17 years are featured inside this magazine. The range of the projects she led on is breathtaking and she has made a huge and positive difference to our Borough. We thank her for her incredible service and wish her well as she continues to fight for Bexley and stand up for local government in the House of Lords.
It is a privilege and honour to succeed her and become the Leader of the Council. Bexley is my home and I care deeply about our great Borough.
We have brillant schools, excellent parks and a sense of pride in place and community spirit that is unrivalled. We have fantastic charities and businesses and across Bexley we see acts of kindness and generosity that are unmatched.
I am part of a strong team of Councillors and we look forward to working with colleagues, staff and partners on behalf of our residents and businesses to build on those successes and address the challenges we face. I will never forget that our Council Taxpayers should be at the centre of all we do and that it is their money that we spend when we take those all-important decisions.
As Council Leader, I will work tirelessly and lobby hard for our Borough so that together we can continue to #MakeBexleyEvenBetter.
Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Resources and Transformation, Cllr David Leaf
