Biodiversity Context
Bexley has large areas of natural and semi-natural habitats comprising woodlands, grazing marsh, pasture, heathland and rivers which support a range of species.
Furthermore, the borough’s location within the Thames Gateway places it within a wider network of habitats that have been shown to support a diverse range of nationally important invertebrates. The richness of Bexley’s natural environment also includes private gardens, parks and open spaces and green ‘wildlife’ corridors along waterways and railways as well as on the River Thames and its tributaries. The urban fabric also plays an important role in conserving and enhancing the boroughs wildlife habitat, with features such as bat and bird nesting bricks and green roofs extending ecological links through urban areas.
