Section 6: Monitoring and evaluating your actions
As part of the actions noted above the Council will consider how any new actions will be monitored.
The Council’s first Local Plan monitoring report for April 2023 to March 2024 demonstrates that the new Local Plan is successfully contributing to sustainable development in Bexley. The AMR tracks the effectiveness of Local Plan policies, including those relevant to biodiversity, using indicators such as change in areas of publicly accessible to open space, areas protected for nature conservation, biodiversity net gain and applications achieving the target urban greening factor score. It also assesses how frequently policies are applied in planning decisions and their performance at appeal. This provides clear evidence on how Local Plan policies actively contribute to conserving and enhancing biodiversity.
In addition to monitoring implementation of planning policies through the Local Plan AMR, biodiversity outcomes are also monitored informally through site management records, species recording, partnership projects, and engagement with partner organisations such as Greenspace Information for Greater London and Environment Agency. These activities help to build an evidence base to inform future management, policy development, and reporting.
