Section 2: Our future actions
Bexley’s 2050 Vision
An exciting future action for Bexley is the 2050 Vision. Over the past year, we have developed a Bexley Partnership, which is made up of many of the private and public sector organisations that are based in Bexley. Together, and in consultation with our residents, we have developed our key vision of what the most significant challenges and opportunities are for Bexley in the long-term future, and how we can best address them. Together we are committed to delivering this vision, and the brightest future for Bexley.
Preserving a green environment and protecting our biodiversity are crucial elements of our Vision. We have five shared goals, and protecting our diverse environment underpins them all, particularly goals 1, 4 and 5:
- Bexley: a great place to be
- Raise the profile of Bexley and attract investment to benefit all
- Improve health, wellbeing and fairness
- A green innovator and leader
- Take advantage of the skills and employment opportunities of the future
We are currently working together to establish an action plan for the key steps we are going to take at the beginning of the 2050 Vision’s journey. This is going to include vital partnership work with our local schools and colleges to promote green skills and green education, and work with local waste treatment Cory to improve the environmental friendliness of local industry, and expand the green economy throughout Bexley.
Biodiversity is a vital element of our health and wellbeing, and our parks and open spaces are a key contributor to what makes Bexley a great place to live in, and an attractive place to invest in. We are looking forward to incorporating biodiversity and environmental protection into our action plan.
Upcoming strategic refresh plans
In 2026, the Bexley Plan will be refreshed. It will closely align with the 2050 Vision and work to support those crucial goals. This, again, includes protecting our beautiful parks and wildlife spaces, working towards a greener economy, and further promoting our excellent waste and recycling rates.
Our Climate Change Action Plan will also be refreshed in 2026. This will also involve key actions around protecting and preserving our local environment, and promoting lower-carbon, greener practices throughout the borough, which will have a positive impact on our biodiversity.
