What's on for youth (8 to 16)

Wednesday Youth Night (5pm to 7pm)

Wednesday Youth Night is the perfect way to experience a water sport whether you’re a beginner or experienced. The sessions are led by our team of experienced instructors and include fun games afloat as well as tailored sessions for those wanting to get their sailing logbooks signed off and develop their paddlesport skills.

Sessions run on Wednesdays from 5pm to 7pm between April and September (weather dependent).

Danson Park Adventures Saturday Youth Club

Saturday Youth Club (1pm to 3pm)

Saturday Youth Club is the perfect way to experience a water sport whether you’re a beginner or experienced. The sessions are led by our team of experienced instructors and include fun games afloat as well as tailored sessions for those wanting to get their sailing logbooks signed off and develop their paddlesport skills.

Sessions run on Saturdays from 1pm to 3pm between April and October (weather dependent).

Pre-booking and payment required.

School holiday programmes

The school holiday programmes run 9.30am to 3.30pm throughout the year (excluding February half term and Christmas holiday).

Our school holiday programme offers a multi-sport experience filled with thrilling sailing, kayaking, canoeing, Stand Up Paddleboarding and bell boating for eight to 16-year-olds of all abilities.

No experience is necessary, our instructors will teach the basics to get everyone on the water and taking part as soon as possible.

Youth courses

Sailing

Courses are available for those aged eight to 16, individuals can take part in RYA Stage One, Two, Three and Four courses.

Each Stage is based on a two-day course running from 9am to 5pm.

  • Stage One - gives a basic understanding of how to handle the boat, steering and wind awareness
  • Stage Two - focusing on basic sailing skills, ropework and turning whilst controlling the boat speed
  • Stage Three - covers everything from man overboard recovery to sailing around a triangular course
  • Stage Four - looks at sailing both single and double-handed dinghies focusing on more in-depth techniques and manoeuvres

Paddle sports (8 to 16)

Personal performance awards 

The British Canoeing Personal Performance Awards are designed for paddlers wanting to gain recognition of their learning and development, in the craft and environment they choose, whether this is by Kayak, Canoe or Stand Up Paddleboard. The Paddle Start award looks to encourage new paddlers and build confidence. The Paddle Discover Awards enables the paddler to develop decision making and fundamental skills.

Powerboating

We offer RYA Powerboat Level One (Ages eight to 14).

Running from 9am to 5pm this course covers:

  • launch and recovery
  • preparation of the boat and crew
  • boat handling
  • picking up and securing to a mooring buoy
  • leaving and coming alongside
  • being towed

Candidates aged 14 or above may consider a Powerboat Level 2 please see the adult section.
