Rent it Right

Selective Licensing is where private-rented properties within a designated area are required to be licensed. The schemes are designed to tackle various issues such as anti-social behaviour and poor property conditions.

Following a review of the necessary data, the Council is now consulting on designating a new selective licensing regime for Belvedere Ward.

We are currently asking anyone who may be affected by the new scheme to look over proposals and give us their thoughts on the scheme. The consultation will run until the 3 April. More details are available online including

  • evidence base and the reasons why the Council has designated Belvedere Ward
  • proposed licence fees and costings of the scheme
  • properties that will be exempt from the scheme
  • an online look up tool where you can check your property will be affected by the proposed scheme
  • the licence application process.

Cllr Sue Gower MBE - Cabinet Member for Communities & Housing said:

Selective Licensing schemes are designed to ensure that rented properties are managed responsibly and help to improve the standard of living for tenants.

Iā€™d urge anyone with links to the area ā€“ whether as a tenant, homeowner, landlord or local business ā€“ to read the proposal and complete the consultation."
