Tackling fly-tipping

Bexley cut fly-tipping by almost one-third last year, one of the biggest reductions in London, thanks to our clampdown.

The data shows 5,096 incidents of fly-tipping in 2021-22. The following year, 2022-23 we cut this number to 3,633 incidents. We also issued more fixed penalty notices (FPNs) with a total of 1730 enforced in 2023.

The Council’s enforcement team are out in the Borough tackling fly-tipping every day and making a difference. New gates have been installed and regular monitoring increased at Crabtree Manorway North, Belvedere Industrial Estate and this has helped to stop the regular fly-tipping that was taking place in a footpath running alongside Bronze Age Way.

In Norman Road (North), Belvedere, where there used to be regular large-scale deposits of waste, the team, working in partnership with Cory and assisted by the introduction of CCTV technology, were able to take more enforcement actions which has transformed this former fly-tipping hotspot.

We need the support of our local community to stop this criminal activity. If you see waste that has been fly-tipped or witness someone in the act of fly-tipping let us know online at report fly-tipping. Please ensure you note vehicle registration and make, company logos and the date and time of the incident.

You can also report fly-tipping to us on 020 8303 7777, or email Customer.Services@bexley.gov.uk

If your waste is fly-tipped by a third-party that you have hired you remain responsible and could face a penalty charge. If you are hiring someone to remove your rubbish, always make sure you use a registered waste carrier.

Cabinet Member for Place, Cllr Richard Diment said:

Keeping the Borough clean and green is a top priority. We’ve always been clear that we have zero tolerance of fly-tipping.

We have plans to introduce new deterrents and to increase mobile CCTV coverage, which we will announce soon."
