Building confidence for employment success

Bexley Business & Employment (BBE) recently worked in partnership with Elev8You to deliver a 2-day workshop that provided practical confidence-building sessions led by qualified local wellness professionals.

The workshop focused on employability readiness, personal presentation, nutrition, mental wellbeing and motivation - all critical but often overlooked factors in successful workforce re-entry.

When asked what they gained from the workshops, one attendee said:

It’s been really great to be a part of this event where you meet people that are in a similar situation and how you can feel empowered after applying the techniques taught by different professionals."

Another attendee said:

Coming here made me feel confident to do anything and has really helped me with a lot".

This workshop was delivered under the Trailblazers programme that helps Bexley residents find paid work. The programme also offers one-to-one support with a personal employment advisor, accredited training and work experience placements to help people gain work skills. We have also partnered with Proper Blokes Club to deliver mental health and wellbeing walks for men seeking employment.

The Learning and Enterprise College Bexley (LECB) offers a friendly and supportive learning environment with dedicated tutors helping learners achieve their goals.

Whether you want to gain a qualification, improve your job prospects, build confidence or try something new, there is a course for you.

New for 2026/27 are Health and Social Care courses, helping learners gain the skills and knowledge needed for careers in care, health and community support.

The college also offers Essential Skills courses in English, maths and digital skills, helping learners succeed in work, further study and everyday life.

For those looking to learn for enjoyment, LECB’s expanded Leisure and Hobbies programme includes courses in art, pottery, photography, creative writing and glasswork.

These courses help learners develop new skills, improve wellbeing and meet people with similar interests.

With flexible study options, online learning and many free or subsidised courses, LECB makes learning accessible to everyone.

Thinking about an apprenticeship?

Apprenticeships have gained popularity as a career path in recent years, combining practical training in a job with study.

Apprentices earn a wage and get holiday pay, work alongside experienced staff, gain job-specific skills and get time for training and study related to their role (at least 20% of their normal working hours).

Depending on the type and level of the apprenticeship, they can take between eight months and six years to complete. To start one, you’ll need to be 16 or over, living in England and not in full-time education.

Here in Bexley, we have a strong track record of welcoming and developing apprentices.

Our Visual Communications apprentice Olivia started with us in April. As part of her Multi-Channel Marketer Level 3 Apprenticeship, she has been developing her planning, content creation and evaluation skills while gaining valuable hands-on experience in a busy communications environment.

Since joining the team, she has worked on a range of promotional campaigns including Pride in Place, the School Green Awards and Bexley’s Got Parks.

Olivia said:

It has been incredibly rewarding to apply my marketing skills in a Council setting and help keep residents informed and engaged. I’m looking forward to continuing to develop and contribute to further exciting projects."
