5. Physical Activities

Physical activity remained a core focus of our HAF provision throughout the 2024/25 programme year, with all providers meeting the requirement of delivering at least one hour of physical activity per day.

A wide range of sports and movement-based sessions were offered, giving children and young people the chance to build skills, stay active, and try something new. Activities included football, tennis, badminton, basketball, archery, fencing, baseball, and even quidditch - introducing children to sports they may not typically have access to.

New and engaging experiences, such as boxing workshops, helped build confidence and resilience, particularly among older participants. One innovative session saw children using a smoothie bike, where they pedalled to power their own healthy drinks - linking physical activity with nutritional education in a fun, memorable way.

Swimming lessons and pool-based activities were a highlight at several provisions, offering non-swimmers the chance to gain confidence in the water while enjoying themselves. Dodgeball continued to be a firm favourite across many clubs, valued for its inclusivity and high engagement.

In response to poor weather, providers adapted creatively, offering indoor alternatives such as aerobics and 'Just Dance' sessions. These music-based activities kept children moving and engaged, ensuring consistent delivery of physical activity regardless of the conditions.
