11. Priority 1: serious violence

Serious violence is broadly defined as violence that results in serious physical harm or has the potential to cause serious harm. It is therefore an umbrella term that encompasses a number of crime types, including:

  • gang violence
  • knife crime
  • gun crime
  • drug crime
  • murder and manslaughter
  • kidnapping, abduction and false imprisonment
  • grievous and actual bodily harm
  • exploitation and modern slavery
  • violence against women and girls, including sexual offences and domestic abuse

Most of these crime types are uncommon in Bexley, however, the BCSP considers serious violence a priority area because where it does happen, it causes the highest level of harm to victims and impact on community safety.

The BCSP has a Serious Violence Strategy which outlines in more detail the work being done, and a serious violence working group who oversee delivery against that strategy.
