The two-day volunteering effort was highly productive and well-received

On 19 and 26 June 2025, 21 staff members from the Bexley Business & Employment (BBE) Restart team volunteered with national disability charity Sense at its Crayford warehouses.

The team worked across two sites to tag donated school uniforms, sort public donations, and upload items to the Sense online shop, some of which sold before the end of the day. One team processed over six pallets of uniforms, while others prepared items for distribution to shops across the UK. Sense has supported people with complex disabilities for over 70 years. Founded in response to children born deafblind following rubella outbreaks, the charity grew from grassroots beginnings into a national organisation. Sense now provides vital services in education, social care, and communication.

The two-day volunteering effort was highly productive and well received, with plans for the BBE Restart team to return later this year. Sense has also approved a pilot scheme allowing Restart participants, including ESOL learners, to gain hands-on work experience, helping build soft skills and confidence in a supportive, real-world environment.
