New Guide for Unpaid Carers

The Bexley Unpaid Carers Guide has been co-designed with carers and local partners through the Carers Partnership Board to provide practical, easy-to-understand information for people supporting a family member, friend, or neighbour.

Shaped directly by carers’ experiences, the guide aims to help people recognise themselves as carers earlier, understand what support is available and feel more confident navigating services and day-to-day challenges.

The guide brings together local information, practical advice, carers’ rights and signposting to support in one place, using clear language and straightforward guidance.

Councillor Janice Ward-Wilson, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Health, said:

Unpaid carers make an enormous contribution to our communities, often while balancing work, family life and their own wellbeing. This guide has been shaped directly by carers in Bexley to provide clear practical support and help people access the right information earlier in their caring role."

Printed copies will also be available through GP surgeries, pharmacies, hospitals, Adult Social Care services, libraries and local voluntary sector organisations across Bexley.

Recognising our Unpaid Carers

The Carers Partnership Board hosted a successful event for unpaid carers at the Holiday Inn, Bexley, on Monday, 8 June.

The marketplace-style event brought together local organisations, support services and wellbeing providers, allowing carers to access information, advice and practical support in one place. Attendees were able to take part in activities including yoga, meditation, and pamper sessions such as massages, while also meeting local charities offering ongoing support.

 Councillor Janice Ward-Wilson, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Health, said:

This event recognised the often unseen, invaluable contribution unpaid carers make every day, and provided access to support, focused on their own well-being."

Carer Money Matters Success

Crossroads Care Logo

The recent Carer Money Matters run by London Crossroads Care South East and Carers Support Bexley provided practical, targeted support and micro-grants to help tackle fuel poverty and strengthen carers financial resilience.

The project supported 429 local unpaid carers, helping unlock nearly £50,000 in income and saving.

We are proud of what the Carer Money Matters project has achieved over the past 18 months, at a time when unpaid carers need support more than ever.

This success was rooted in strong partnership. Carers Support Bexley brought invaluable local insight and trusted relationships that ensured we reached those most in need. We are also grateful to Carers Trust for their strategic leadership and to Scottish Gas Networks for funding the project."
