You may have noticed a new No Food Waste sticker on your general rubbish bin lid! These have been stuck on the lid of every rubbish bin in the Borough to remind everyone that ‘food’s not rubbish so let’s recycle it!’
The bin stickers are a gentle reminder that food waste doesn’t belong in your general rubbish bin. Instead, put it in your free food box; it’s collected every week and turned into green power for homes. If you recycle just six teabags, that creates enough energy to boil water for another cup of tea!
Food waste is collected weekly free of charge. You can order a free food waste recycling caddy and food waste box and check what food can be recycled on our Food waste page.

Our Repair Cafés give residents a friendly place to fix everyday items for free while reducing waste and strengthening community ties.
Takes place at Youthbuild Ventures UK, 90 Titmuss Avenue, SE28 8FD, running from 12pm to 3pm on selected Saturdays. The next date following delivery of the magazine will be 12 September. These are run in partnership with the charities Restart, TRAID and local volunteers. Booking is strongly recommended via the event’s QR code.
Run by the Sidcup Rotary club, the cafe takes place every third Saturday of the month from 2pm to 5pm at St. Lawrence Community Centre, 109 Main Road, Sidcup, DA14 6ND. Walk ins are welcome, though waiting times may vary and repairs cannot always be guaranteed.
The cafés specialise in repairing small electrical items such as kettles, toasters and hoovers, along with clothing repairs. Other items may also be fixable.
Recycling up by 2% to 48%, thanks to all our residents. Recent annual recycling figures from DEFRA show that thanks to your recycling efforts Bexley is doing well on overall recycling with 48% of its household waste recycled in 2024/25, an increase of 2% on 2023/24.
We are well above the London average (32.7%) and the national average (42.3%) and are in the top three highest recyclers in London.
