Local Elections

Local elections took place on 7 May 2026 to elect Councillors to all 17 wards in Bexley. 

The seats won were:

  • Conservative Party - 29
  • Labour Party - 9
  • Reform UK - 7 

Cabinet Members

Following the full Council meeting in May, the members of the Cabinet and their respective portfolio titles are as below:

  • Cllr David Leaf - Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Resources and Transformation
  • Cllr Cameron Smith - Deputy Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Economic Growth and Infrastructure
  • Cllr Brian Bishop - Cabinet Member for Communities and Housing
  • Cllr Caroline Newton - Cabinet Member for Finance, Corporate Services and Education
  • Cllr Rags Sandhu - Cabinet Member for Environment, Culture and Leisure
  • Cllr Chris Taylor - Cabinet Member for Children and Families
  • Cllr Janice Ward-Wilson - Cabinet Member for Adults and Health

New Mayor

Councillor Lisa-Jane Moore, who represents Longlands ward, became the London Borough of Bexley’s 62nd Mayor at the Council’s Annual Meeting on 27 May. 

The new consort is Mr Justin Moore.

Councillor Moore is the 74th person to hold the title of Mayor of Bexley since the old Borough of Bexley received its charter in 1937.

She was first elected as a councillor in 2021 and has since served on several key scrutiny committees, including Adults Social Care and Health and Children’s Services and Education.

Cllr Moore also chaired Children’s Services scrutiny for three years, including work on SEND and foster carer recruitment and retention.

The Mayor said:  

I am proud to serve as the Mayor of Bexley. This Borough has been my home for over two decades and I am committed to working tirelessly to support and uplift our residents. Together, we can achieve great things for Bexley.

The Mayor has announced that she will be working throughout her Mayoral year to raise funds for three local charities, Crossroads Care South East London, children’s charity Truly Beloved and Diabetes UK Bexley Support Group.

The Mayor appointed Councillor Frazer Brooks, who represents Blackfen and Lamorbey ward, as her Deputy Mayor and Ms Allison Hartshorn as the Deputy Mayoress.
