Selection test in September 2019 for children transferring to secondary school in September 2020
The Bexley Selection Test will be on Tuesday 10 or Wednesday 11 September 2019. All registered children who attend a primary school in Bexley will sit the test on the morning of 11 September, either in their own school or in a test centre. Registration closed on 7 July and no late registrations will be permitted.
Emails inviting candidates, not taking the test in their own school, to a test centre will be sent by 2 September. Please check your spam folders and email the school admissions team if you have not received your invitation. You can email firstname.lastname@example.org with your child’s name and the reference number you were given in your registration confirmation email.
The Bexley test consists of two test papers with a mixture of questions on verbal reasoning and comprehension, non-verbal reasoning and mathematical reasoning. Each paper will be divided into timed sections, and instructions will be given on an audio soundtrack. Most questions are multiple choice, and all answers are marked on a separate machine-readable answer sheet. There will be a short break between the two test papers.
All parents who have registered their child for the test were sent a link to practice questions and a familiarisation booklet in their confirmation email. The test provider, CEM, does not sell past papers or practice books.
The results will be sent by email on 4 October 2019.
Selection tests for children already at secondary school
Children can be admitted to grammar schools in Bexley after the start of Year 7 if vacancies arise because, for example, other children leave the school. If you would like to apply for a place at a grammar school in Bexley for your child, you should apply directly to the school.
The tests are not the same as those taken by children in the last year of primary school.
If your child is deemed selective but a place is not available at your preferred school, you will be able to request that he or she is placed on the waiting list for a place. Being deemed selective does not guarantee that a place will be offered.
For further information regarding the in year selection tests, please view the grammar school websites.
