8. Audience

The BCSP will be targeting its message to the Bexley community. This means our residents, our businesses, our out-of-borough students and workers, and our regular visitors. All deserve to feel safe and welcome in Bexley.

For any communications plan to be effective, it needs to reach the intended audience. The BCSP recognises the need to conduct a stakeholder analysis for each communication and engagement exercise undertaken, where there is a specific target audience for a specific reason; mapping each stakeholder’s interest and influence.

This is particularly important when the audience does not use/have access to traditional media methods. Multiple and various communications channels should be used to increase the likelihood of the message reaching its intended audience, and to increase the impact of the message.

The communications channels used should be varied, and the messaging diverse. This is not only to ensure receipt and representation of the message by differing audiences, but to reflect that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to successful communications. Different people are more receptive to different formats.

The BCSP will make use of the annual Community Safety Survey to improve its understanding of our community's needs, and how best to reach different audiences. The Partnership will make use of intelligence, research and consultation to better understand the views, opinions and perceptions of our residents, ensuing they are a key focus of our communications.
