12. Media
The BCSP is aware of the significant role and influence of the media. We are committed to positive relationships with the media, aiming for transparency, impartiality and adherence to legal requirements.
Any media requests for the BCSP will be brought to the attention of the Board, for the Board to make the decision regarding the request. The Board will seek to accommodate and respond to all media requests, recognising the importance of a close and transparent working relationship.
There are occasions in which media disclosure may not be in the public interest. The Board may choose not to respond or comment on a media request due to protection for confidentiality, commercial interest, security and safety, political sensitivity or impartiality, to maintain legal or investigatory matters, to contain risk, or because it is an unreasonable request.
BCSP partners will not discuss or disclose confidential or exempt information to the media.
During election periods, the BCSP will reduce its communications in response to the period of heightened sensitivity. Media statements will not be provided concerning such matters. The BCSP will, however, continue to ensure that key reporting mechanisms and support services are available, visible and accessible to residents.
The BCSP will respond to any Freedom of Information Requests made by the media or the public, within 20 days. We may refuse to respond to requests in which the exemptions under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 apply, such as where it contains personal data, would prejudice security or legal proceedings, or where it is unreasonable to provide.
