Fostering Together host half term fun
Fostering Together hosted a heartwarming event at Cineworld in Bexley during the May half-term

Fostering Together hosted a heartwarming event at Cineworld in Bexley during the May half-term on 30 May, bringing together foster families, carers, and children for a special screening of the beloved Disney film Lilo & Stitch. The event created a joyful and welcoming space for all to connect, relax, and share in the magic of cinema.

With smiles, snacks and the spirit of ‘ohana’ the Hawaiian word for family this was more than just a movie outing. It was a joyful celebration of love, belonging, and the meaningful bonds that make fostering so special.

Reflecting on the event, Tracy, a Bexley core carer with Fostering Together, shared:

It was such a lovely day, with over 40 children and adults, aged 2 to 17, joining in the fun. Seeing the children laughing together and the carers connecting made it feel like one big family. Events like this remind us that fostering isn’t just about providing care, it’s about building a community.”

This cinema trip is one of many events organised by Fostering Together to create joyful, safe spaces where foster families can connect. These shared experiences help children form friendships and strengthen support networks, making transitions such as during respite care feel more natural and comforting, as the children have already built relationships at these events.

Each Fostering Together community consists of around 6 to 8 fostering families who are welcomed as extended members of the Core Carer's home.

The Core Carer is an experienced foster carer who leads the community, providing peer support, guidance, and sharing their knowledge and experience. They also organise social activities and sleepovers, helping to strengthen relationships and empower families to support one another.

If you work and are concerned about how fostering might fit into your lifestyle, Fostering Together could be the perfect solution if you foster with Bexley.
