The event brought together Members of Parliament, local leaders, and representatives from supported lodgings services to celebrate the incredible contribution of hosts across the country. Attendees heard inspiring stories of the impact hosts have on the lives of young people, with discussions focusing on how to continue strengthening this essential support system.
The reception highlighted the importance of providing safe, nurturing homes for young people and recognised the dedication of our hosts, as well as the need for more people to become hosts to support young people transitioning to independent living.
Tom, Lead Practitioner for Host and Support at Bexley, said:
Supported lodgings can make a real difference in a young person’s life. The dedication of our hosts helps young people build confidence, independence, and a sense of belonging, which is so important as they move towards adulthood."
The Bexley Host and Support scheme provides young people in care aged 16 to 21 in care with safe, supportive accommodation while they transition to independent living. Through our Host and Support Scheme, we match young people with carefully trained and approved hosts who offer a welcoming home environment. Our team also provides guidance, mentoring, and advocacy, ensuring that young people are empowered to reach their full potential.
We thank Home for Good for inviting us and for helping to raise awareness of the difference supported lodgings make in young people’s lives.
